Illusion Cat releases “Farewell in Seven Acts” on Jan. 30, a six-track EP spanning psychedelic indie rock, heavier sounds, and songs in Portuguese and English.
Rio-based band Illusion Cat releases the EP “Farewell in Seven Acts” on January 30. The project arrives on all major streaming platforms. In addition, it frames a farewell told through distinct musical acts.
The EP features six tracks, including three unreleased songs. It moves between psychedelic indie rock, heavier rock and experimental passages. As a result, the band embraces variety while keeping a clear artistic identity.
From Grajaú to the indie scene
Formed in Grajaú in Rio’s North Zone, Illusion Cat works within the psychedelic indie rock scene. The lineup includes Carlos Eduardo Areias (vocals and guitar), Gabriel Bordallo (bass) and Rodrigo Pinheiro (guitar). In addition, Luigi Gosling (keyboards) and João Chequer (drums) round out the group.
The band has logged more than 100,000 plays on Spotify. On YouTube, it has around 12,000 views. Meanwhile, its social following continues to grow, with about 1,500 on Instagram and 3,000 on TikTok.
A chapter-based farewell and rich instrumentation
On “Farewell in Seven Acts”, each track works as a standalone chapter within one story. The opening title track highlights that approach from the start. In this way, it shifts from heavier rock to sections with jazz mood and vibraphone.
Across the EP, some songs lean more psychedelic while others sound more straightforward rock. On the other hand, the project includes acoustic moments and denser arrangements. As a result, brass, timpani and marimba appear, with prominent drums throughout.
Before the EP, the band gained attention for original releases and blended references. A key moment was the single “Adeus”, its first song in Portuguese. Therefore, it reinforced the group’s aim to broaden emotional storytelling.
Guest features and tracklist
The EP includes guest features that expand its sonic palette. Lina Cosmic shares vocals on “Into The Radio”. In addition, Onára appears on “Le Pendu”.
The six tracks on “Farewell in Seven Acts” are: “Farewell in Seven Acts”, “Solidão (Entre Jovens e Ladrões)”, “Into The Radio” (feat. Lina Cosmic), “Summer Came in Colours”, “Le Pendu” (feat. Onára) and “Adeus”.
With the release, Illusion Cat reaffirms its authorial identity and willingness to experiment. In addition, the band treats creative freedom as a core element of the project. Finally, the EP positions the group as a rising name in Brazil’s independent scene.
