From a new 1,280m vineyard in Chapada Diamantina, UVVA launches its first Viognier, the fresh and elegant Viognier UVVA 2024.
First Viognier marks new terroir chapter
Located in Mucugê, in Brazil’s Chapada Diamantina region, Vinícola UVVA is opening a new chapter in its terroir development with the release of Viognier UVVA 2024. It is the winery’s first wine made from Viognier, a variety gaining ground among consumers.
The grapes come from an exclusive vineyard at 1,280 metres above sea level, a plot not previously explored by UVVA. The new area sits 130 metres higher than the existing vineyard, on slopes at the foot of the Serra do Sincorá.
The site offers milder temperatures and preserves a marked diurnal temperature range, with cooler nights at harvest time. This combination adds character, structure and a distinct identity to the new white.
Classic winemaking to preserve freshness and typicity
To maintain the full expression of Viognier, UVVA followed a classic winemaking approach. Fermentation was long and carried out at low temperatures, in stainless-steel tanks, with no oak ageing.
Head winemaker Marcelo Petroli explains that the aim was to showcase the grape’s potential in Chapada Diamantina, highlighting fruit, acidity and texture.
“The result is a wine with an elegant, fresh, balanced and delicate profile, where freshness, typicity and the varietal’s intrinsic character truly stand out,” says Petroli.
Strategic launch with new grape, new terroir and screw cap
According to UVVA’s CEO Fabiano Borré, the launch is also a strategic milestone. The Viognier UVVA 2024 introduces a new grape, a new high-altitude terroir and the winery’s adoption of screw-cap closure.
For the company, the wine embodies its long-term vision for Chapada Diamantina. It strengthens UVVA’s focus on innovation, technical excellence and local terroir development.
By adding Viognier to its portfolio, UVVA consolidates its role in Brazil’s growing category of high-altitude white wines, spotlighting Bahia as an emerging fine-wine region.

Surrounded by striking natural landscapes, the winery benefits from a unique tropical highland microclimate, with mild winter temperatures and a daily thermal range of up to 20 degrees during harvest. Combined with loam-clay-sandy soils, these conditions yield fresh, high-acidity wines.
UVVA focuses on producing authentic, balanced and elegant wines. The estate offers guided tastings led by winemakers and houses Arenito, a contemporary-cuisine restaurant that complements the enotourism experience.
