Marvio Ciribelli plays two December shows in Rio and Itaipava, with special guests and tributes to Brazilian music icons.
Performances in Rio and Itaipava
Pianist and composer Marvio Ciribelli closes 2025 with two special concerts in Rio and the mountain region. On December 7, at 9 p.m., he performs at the iconic Bottle’s Bar, in the Beco das Garrafas, Copacabana. On this date, he welcomes Oregon-based saxophonist Tom Bergeron for the project “Nichteroy Bossa Nova e Sambajazz Orquestra Mini”.
In Copacabana, the duo will be joined by bassist Alex Rocha and drummer Lucca Machado. The night focuses on some of the best themes of Brazilian instrumental music, with emphasis on bossa nova and sambajazz. Thus, the historic club setting enhances the intimate atmosphere of the performance.
On December 19, at 8 p.m., Marvio Ciribelli takes the stage at Soberano Jazz Club, in Itaipava, Petrópolis. This second concert features Tom Bergeron, singers Sheila Sá and Rosi Bergeron, drummer Marcio Bahia and bassist Cadu Pontes. The evening also includes a special guest appearance by TV host and singer Mylena Ciribelli, Marvio’s sister.
Repertoire and tributes
The Itaipava show will include tributes to Sergio Mendes and Chico Buarque. In addition, the program highlights the high level of Brazilian instrumentalists, a central theme in Marvio’s work. The two concerts underline his connection to jazz and contemporary Brazilian sounds.
Throughout the performances, the repertoire will feature works by Antonio Adolfo (“Cascavel”), Hermeto Pascoal (“Bebê” and “Chorinho pra Ele”) and Egberto Gismonti (“Loro”). The setlist also brings pieces by Ricardo Silveira (“Bom de Tocar”), Luizinho Eça (“The Dolphin”) and Hamilton de Holanda (“A Escola e a Bola”). This way, the pianist offers a broad overview of Brazilian instrumental music.
Original compositions by Marvio Ciribelli will also be performed, such as “Mantra” and “Sans Souci”, the latter written with Giovanni Bizzotto. The selection showcases his authorial side while dialoguing with classics of Brazilian jazz. Thus, the program combines well-known standards and strong personal themes.

About Marvio Ciribelli
Born in Niterói (RJ), Marvio Ciribelli built a solid career in jazz and instrumental music. He has performed at festivals such as Adelaide Fringe (Australia), Java Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Jazz Plaza (Cuba) and Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland). At Montreux, he recorded three live albums, further expanding his international profile.
The pianist has recorded with British vocalist John Lawton (Uriah Heep) and American singer Freddy Cole, brother of Nat King Cole. He also released an album with the Dutch group Focus, a major name in progressive rock. Therefore, his trajectory includes collaborations with artists from different countries and styles.
In recent years, Marvio Ciribelli has been a frequent presence on Brazil’s jazz festival circuit. He has played in Rio de Janeiro, Paraty, Rio das Ostras, Serra da Mantiqueira, Visconde de Mauá and Niterói, among other cities. In this way, he remains active on key stages dedicated to the genre.
Tom Bergeron and his Brazilian connection
Saxophonist Tom Bergeron has nearly five decades of experience and has performed with Ella Fitzgerald, Anthony Braxton, Natalie Cole, Robert Cray and The Temptations. His versatility allowed him to explore multiple formats and musical directions over the years. As a result, he became a respected name across jazz and popular music scenes.
Tom is also known for his passion for choro, a traditional Brazilian genre he plays with notable fluency. Moreover, he is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts in multiphonics, a technique that produces several notes simultaneously on the saxophone. This mastery expands the expressive range of his performances.
Mylena Ciribelli and special guests
TV host and singer Mylena Ciribelli began her professional career as a radio announcer at Fluminense FM, in Niterói. She later worked at Rádio Cidade FM and on TV networks Manchete, Record and Globo. She became nationally known for presenting sports programs such as Esporte Espetacular and Globo Esporte.
Mylena has sung with her brother Marvio Ciribelli since childhood and returns to the stage with him for this special show. Alongside Sheila Sá, a singer from Amapá who has performed with Ciribelli’s group in Indonesia, she will present songs in tribute to arranger and pianist Sergio Mendes. Thus, the Itaipava concert promises emotional and musically rich moments.
