Malaysia launches Visit Malaysia 2026, aiming for 43 million visitors with the “Surreal Experiences” concept and a strong sustainability agenda.

A landmark year to rediscover Malaysia

Malaysia is preparing for its most ambitious Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, designed to position the country as one of Asia’s most complete and authentic destinations. The national goal is to welcome over 43 million international travellers, driven by multiculturalism, lush nature and distinctive hospitality.

The strategy builds on the global strength of the Malaysia Truly Asia brand, which has been a key tourism identifier for more than 25 years. For millions of visitors, the tagline represents a place where Malay, Chinese, Indian, indigenous and other Asian cultures coexist and are celebrated in one nation.

“Surreal Experiences” across one diverse country

The creative concept “Surreal Experiences” invites travellers to discover a country where the extraordinary is part of everyday life. In this context, the narrative highlights experiences that range from deep ecotourism and jungle adventures to contemporary luxury stays.

Visitors can wander through 130-million-year-old primary rainforests, dive into world-class reefs, relax on white-sand beaches and explore modern cities such as Kuala Lumpur. At the same time, historic streets, places of worship and food markets naturally blend languages, aromas and traditions.

    Nature, islands and adventure

Under the Nature & Adventure theme, VM2026 spotlights ancient rainforests like Taman Negara and Royal Belum, home to species including the Malayan tiger and sun bear. Malaysia also features iconic peaks such as Mount Kinabalu, often cited as the highest summit in Southeast Asia.

In Malaysian Borneo, the states of Sabah and Sarawak offer orangutans, vast cave systems, indigenous communities and jungle rivers. Activities such as cycling, kayaking, rafting, glamping, trekking and birdwatching gain prominence in areas like the Sarawak Delta Geopark.

When it comes to Islands & Beaches, the campaign showcases Langkawi and its unique geoparks, as well as Redang, Perhentian and Tioman, all renowned among divers. Coastal stretches in Sabah, where rainforest meets the sea, reinforce Malaysia’s appeal as a tropical gateway.

Culture, cuisine and modern city life

For those seeking Culture & Tradition, VM2026 promotes visits to traditional longhouses in Sarawak, enabling meaningful contact with indigenous communities. Routes also cover temples, mosques and historic neighbourhoods that reveal centuries of cultural exchange.

Malaysia’s culinary scene blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and Bornean flavours, turning food into a central part of the travel experience. Meanwhile, the country delivers Shopping, Lifestyle & Modernity through Kuala Lumpur’s luxury malls, local markets and striking skyline, combining accessibility with contemporary urban life.

    Sustainability, inclusion and meaningful travel

Visit Malaysia 2026 is framed as a global call for sustainable and inclusive tourism, not just a visitor campaign. The initiative promotes responsible practices, conservation projects and community-based experiences that generate direct benefits at local level.

The mascots Wira and Manja, two sun bears featured in the VM2026 logo, symbolise diversity, resilience and the need to protect vulnerable species. In this way, the campaign reinforces the idea that travelling to Malaysia also means contributing to the preservation of unique ecosystems.

A national effort led by Tourism Malaysia

The Visit Malaysia Year 2026 is a nationwide initiative of the Malaysian government to boost tourism and its economic impact. It encompasses events, promotions and themed activities designed to celebrate the country’s culture, heritage and attractions while strengthening its global competitiveness.

The campaign is coordinated by Tourism Malaysia, linked to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in partnership with TM Americas, a leading tourism marketing company. Together, they work across 18 countries in the Americas, combining marketing, sales and digital strategies to promote Malaysia as a must-visit destination.
