Serra do Mar train in Paraná runs daily and expects a 14% increase in tourists during the summer months.
Daily service launched for peak season
From Monday, December 1, the Serra do Mar Paranaense Train, operated by Serra Verde Express, begins daily operation through March 6. The expansion responds to rising demand during summer and school holidays. Thus, the railway adjusts its schedule to match the influx of visitors in the region.
For the season, the company expects around 80,000 passengers, a 14% increase compared to December 2023 to March 2024. Last season saw 70,000 boardings during the summer. In this way, the train aims to further consolidate its role in regional tourism growth.
“The train is experiencing consolidation and expansion. Demand remains high, a direct reply to growing interest from tourists,” says Adonai Arruda Filho, Serra Verde Express CEO.
Curitiba-Morretes route highlighted
Departures run daily at 8:30 a.m. from Curitiba to Morretes, and 3:00 p.m. for the return journey. The route crosses the Serra do Mar and preserved Atlantic Forest, passing 19th-century tunnels, bridges and viaducts. Accordingly, passengers experience a unique journey through natural and historical landscapes.
Internationally acclaimed, the Serra do Mar train attracts more than 250,000 people annually. Furthermore, the daily operation enhances visitor flow to nearby coastal cities, such as Morretes and Antonina.
Economic impact for the coast
Local restaurants, guesthouses and shops in Morretes and Antonina already report increased activity. The expansion strengthens the region’s image as a hub for nature, culture and gastronomy. Consequently, tourism stimulates the local economy throughout the season.
“The impact is immediate along the coast, which gains more visitors and reinforces its historic vocation as a destination for nature, culture and gastronomy,” says Arruda Filho.
