Pousada Motta in Miguel Pereira blends Atlantic Forest, comfort, outdoor sports and signature cuisine in Rio’s mountain region.
A nature-filled hideaway in the Atlantic Forest
Pousada Motta is a true hideaway surrounded by nature in the heart of Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, in Miguel Pereira, within the charming Vale das Princesas and the Tinguá Biological Reserve, in Rio de Janeiro’s mountain region. It is the kind of place that captivates at first sight.
About to celebrate its second anniversary in December, the inn, led by Karin Siperek and Pedro Castro, sits in a strategic location. It is less than a three-hour drive from Rio, 27 km from Petrópolis, 21 km from Paty do Alferes and 29 km from downtown Miguel Pereira.
The concept is to combine comfort and convenience from the moment guests arrive. As a result, visitors enjoy the charm of a boutique stay in direct contact with lush nature and mountain air.
Adventure, outdoor sports and pure nature
Pousada Motta is an ideal base for lovers of outdoor sports, including hiking, mountain biking, trekking, trail motorcycles, ATVs and 4×4 vehicles. Guests who enjoy racket sports find courts for beach tennis and even pickleball, one of Brazil’s newest trends.
At the same time, those seeking slower days can simply relax amid gardens, native forest and mountain views. Thus, the property caters both to adventure travelers and to visitors looking for peace and quiet.
The inn is proudly pet friendly, welcoming four-legged companions. Every detail has been designed so families, couples, groups of friends and their pets feel at home and well cared for.
A family story turned boutique hotel
“Pousada Motta is a true paradise in nature, where guests find peace, comfort and countless leisure options,” says co-owner Karin Siperek. She highlights the trails, waterfalls, racket sports, hammock area, sauna and outdoor shower, as well as cozy accommodations.
The story began in the 1970s, when architect Walter Castro and Dona Apparecida, Pedro’s parents, fell in love with the Vale das Princesas and turned it into the family’s countryside retreat. Pedro grew up spending holidays and adventures there, nurturing a deep bond with the place.
Later, he built an international career in the United States, becoming an award-winning architect in Tiny House projects. After returning to Brazil, Pedro met Karin and, together, they decided to renovate the old home of uncle Motta and Dona Fiinha, who had introduced the valley to the family.
Blending Pedro’s architectural expertise with Karin’s refined taste, Pousada Motta was born. Today, it is a boutique-style refuge that preserves the emotional roots of the original family getaway.
Immersed in green: trails, waterfalls and garden-to-table
Guests enjoy an environment fully integrated with the forest, including a homemade breakfast, a fireplace for colder days and exclusive trails leading to waterfalls and scenic viewpoints. There is also a Day Use option for those who simply want to recharge for the day.
A key feature is the on-site vegetable garden, which supplies the kitchen with herbs, greens and fruit. Straight from the soil to the table, these ingredients bring freshness and reinforce the inn’s commitment to simple, flavorful food.
Rooms and award-winning Tiny Houses
Pousada Motta offers 11 cozy units, divided into five suites, three guest rooms and three exclusive Tiny Houses. Among the suites, the Master Accessible Suite stands out for its inclusive design, while other units offer mountain or garden views and private balconies.
All accommodations feature minibar, TV, Wi-Fi and smart storage solutions. The design combines practicality and warmth, creating the feel of a stylish mountain home.
The Tiny Houses, designed by Pedro Castro, are a highlight. Tiny Family was created for families seeking privacy and comfort. Tiny Princesa is perfect for romantic stays and honeymoons. Tiny UAU functions as a private SPA, with its own hydromassage bathtub for deep relaxation.
Signature cuisine with local ingredients
Food is one of the property’s greatest strengths, curated by Teresa and Dona Lu. The culinary philosophy focuses on dishes that combine flavor, tradition and quality, prioritizing fresh produce from local suppliers and the inn’s own garden.
The menu ranges from starters and salads to pasta dishes, casseroles, artisanal pizzas and homemade desserts. House favorites include Teresa’s Feijoada and trout fillet served with guests’ choice of sauces and sides.
The daily breakfast, served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., is an experience in itself. Fresh bread, cakes, tapiocas, cheeses, cold cuts, seasonal fruit, natural juices, yogurts and teas are prepared with care and attention to detail.
Leisure, experiences and outdoor activities
At Pousada Motta, mornings begin with birdsong and views of the surrounding forest. Guests can enjoy a heated pool and sauna for relaxation, plus sport courts and a game room for group fun.
Adventure options include mountain biking routes, guided trekking ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes, and Off Road trails for cars or motorcycles. There are also birdwatching outings led by specialized guides.
The variety of activities makes the inn a suitable choice for families, couples and groups of friends. Whether the goal is adrenaline or contemplation, the surrounding Atlantic Forest is always part of the experience.
