MAPA’s 1st edition crosses 27 Carajás Railway communities with videoart by 10 artists voicing local memories through multilanguages.
MAPA – Mostra de Imagem em Movimento spotlights Pará and Maranhão narratives. Projects employ collages, photography and performance. In addition, they project collective railway memories.
The 10 artists are Acaique, Bárbara Savannah, Dinho Araújo, Ícaro Matos, Inke, Juruna, Leonardo Venturieri, Rafa Cardozo, Ramusyo Brasil and Silvana Mendes. They crafted new works post-residencies. Thus, they engage local communities.
Creation and curation process
The project drew 184 entries. Production phase featured meetings and residencies. Artists connected with Estrada de Ferro Carajás (EFC) communities.
This fueled poetic videoart raw material. MAPA boosts contemporary art locally. As such, it expands creative economy and inclusive discourses.
Artists and unique views
Ícaro Matos from Parauapebas uses documentary photography. His research builds EFC community archives. Meanwhile, Juruna reflects sustainable infrastructures as nomadic performer.
Rafa Cardozo captures landscapes via mixed performance. Acaique from Maranhão engages LGBTQIAPN+ in cinema. Both voice railway observers.
Dinho Araújo, anthropologist, delves into dream fabulations. Ramusyo Brasil, PhD curator, tackles migrations in sonic images. Yet, all innovate in videoart.
Experiments and global reach
Bárbara Savannah and Silvana Mendes paint and photograph overlooked aspects. Leonardo Venturieri and Inke fuse music and graffiti. These refresh regional languages.
MAPA blends youth and experts. Curation by Déia Matos, Eduardo Berardinelli and Koba. João Pacca leads overall. Team features Rapha Dutra and local producers.

Exhibitions and production
OPACCA Produção de Imagem produces, backed by Vale via RPMF and ANTT regulation. Residency ended November with interviews and docs.
Videomappings hit São Luís and Belém May-June 2026. Brasília expo follows July-August. Thus, it links tracks and culture.
