Skyscanner launches Football Flight Finder for 2026 World Cup fans

Skyscanner launches the Football Flight Finder to help fans find cheaper flights and plan complex trips for the 2026 World Cup.

A new tool for a complex tournament

Following the release of the official 2026 World Cup match schedule, Skyscanner announced its new Football Flight Finder. The tool was designed to support fans facing one of the most complex travel scenarios in the tournament’s history, with long distances and tight gaps between matches.

Matches will take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026, with the final scheduled for 19 July at 4 p.m. (Brasília time) at MetLife Stadium, in New York–New Jersey. Host cities are spread across the United States, Canada and Mexico, making this one of the most geographically extensive World Cups ever.

In Canada, games will be played in Toronto and Vancouver. In Mexico, the host cities are Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. In the United States, matches are scheduled for Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York–New Jersey, San Francisco and Bay Area, and Seattle.

Brazil’s group schedule and travel impact

The Brazilian national team will make its debut on 13 June against Morocco at MetLife Stadium, in New York–New Jersey. The side will then face Haiti on 19 June in Philadelphia and close the group stage on 24 June against Scotland in Miami.

The wide spread of host cities should generate one of the largest travel waves ever seen at a World Cup. Unlike editions held in a single country, the 2026 tournament will require fans to organise longer journeys, domestic flights and even cross-border trips between Canada, the United States and Mexico.

This combination of factors pushes fans to plan more strategically and to rely on digital tools that can interpret complex travel patterns. The Football Flight Finder was developed to help visualise these movements more clearly, providing a structured way to explore flight options linked to each match.

    Multi-city bookings and flexible dates

In such an extensive tournament, multi-city booking tools become especially useful. Instead of purchasing separate tickets for each leg, fans can include several cities in a single travel plan, gaining a clearer overview of how destinations connect within the match calendar.

By using multi-city search on platforms such as Skyscanner, travellers can enter multiple cities at once and test different route combinations. This reduces the risk of overlooking key details when organising tight connections between one match and the next.

Because games take place on different days and in various locations, flexible dates are among the most effective ways to cut travel costs. Skyscanner’s price alerts, along with flexible date and whole month search tools, allow users to see how fares evolve over time instead of checking each day individually.

    Tools to optimise match-to-match travel

These features help fans identify the best days to fly between host cities. In addition, they reveal how prices tend to rise as key fixtures approach, encouraging earlier booking and more careful planning of travel between stages of the competition.

For those planning to follow a team across several venues, the Football Flight Finder offers a clear view of the required journeys. Fans can compare flight options, adjust routes and find more affordable alternatives when match schedules shift or knockout pairings are confirmed.

Combining multi-city search, flexible dates and price alerts turns the platform into a sort of travel control panel. Thus, travellers can balance match calendars, budgets and time off while following their favourite teams during the tournament.

Car rental as a key complement

Because the 2026 World Cup spans long distances and three different countries, many fans may choose to rent a car for part of their journey. Road travel is particularly attractive for those seeking flexibility between matches or wishing to explore regions beyond the stadiums.

On certain routes within the United States or southern Canada, driving between host cities can be faster, more direct or more affordable than flying on peak travel dates. In these cases, car rental becomes a practical complement to domestic and regional flights.

Smart travel platforms allow users to compare car rental options with the same level of detail used for flights. Skyscanner aggregates offers from multiple rental companies so fans can quickly identify deals with greater flexibility, better fuel policies or more favourable cancellation terms.

Tips to save on car hire

Bookings with free cancellation and flexible terms are especially useful for fans whose plans may change if their team advances to another city. Longer rental periods sometimes carry lower administrative fees, meaning that a month-long booking can cost less than several short rentals.

Policies that require pick-up and drop-off with a full tank can help avoid extra charges. Choosing pick-up points with self-service kiosks can also reduce waiting times on busy match days, which becomes a clear advantage during peak demand.

Those seeking more sustainable options can filter for electric vehicles, which come pre-charged and remove concerns about fuel policies. In some cases, picking up the vehicle away from the main airport may lower the daily rate, making road travel a more affordable alternative between World Cup cities.

    About Skyscanner and its technology
