Pomerode Christmas Market introduces Sommer Wein, a chilled version of Germany’s Glühwein, blending tradition and summer spirit in Santa Catarina.
A traditional drink from German Christmas markets has gained a Brazilian twist in Pomerode, Santa Catarina. The local Christmas Market will serve Sommer Wein (Summer Wine), a refreshing reinterpretation of the classic Glühwein, adapted to the warm December climate. The drink will be one of the highlights of the event, running from November 26 to January 4, from Thursday to Sunday.
A German classic reinvented for Brazilian summer
The creator of Sommer Wein, German-born Andreas Odenthal, who lives in Pomerode, aimed to bring the spirit of traditional European Christmas markets to Brazil. In Germany, Glühwein is known for creating a sense of warmth and togetherness among families and friends.
“In Brazil, Christmas is hot, so Glühwein would not fulfill that role. The idea was to replace hot wine with a refreshing drink that delivers the same feeling and Christmas spirit, but suited to summer”
The Sommer Wein recipe features full-bodied red wine, orange juice and spices such as cinnamon, cloves and ginger, enriched with two specialty liqueurs: Vanilla Gold and Arancello, the latter already awarded in Germany and England. At the market, the drink will be served in an exclusive mug.
Seasonal cuisine highlights German heritage
Beyond the summer wine, the event celebrates traditional gastronomy with the presence of Stollen, a classic Christmas cake widely prepared by local families. The recipes were refined following a workshop led by German pastry chef Katja Walter.
Visitors will also find typical snacks such as sausage popcorn, German sausages, Blumenau sausage pastries and other dishes that reflect the region’s cultural roots.
Cultural attractions and event structure
The Pomerode Christmas Market will operate on Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to 9pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 9pm. Admission will be free, as well as most of the activities offered.
The program includes theater, music and ballet shows, themed decoration, family workshops, artificial snow, Christmas parades, contests and attractions such as Noel Haus Kyly and the Natal Workshop, where artisans create live pieces in crystal and wood.

Christmas in Pomerode 2025 is organized by Associação Visite Pomerode (Avip), with sponsorship from public institutions and private partners, and support from local associations committed to strengthening the city’s cultural and tourism identity.
