Ralff Abreu returns to international competition at the ITF BT 50 in Niterói alongside João Lauro Carneiro.
Brazilian beach tennis player Ralff Abreu, born in Niterói and vice world champion in 2017, competes starting this Friday, the 14th, at the ITF BT 50 Niterói, held at São Francisco Beach. The tournament offers US$ 4,000 in prize money and valuable points in the International Tennis Federation rankings.
Debut and Expectations for the Tournament
The former top 10 player will team up with Rio-born João Lauro Carneiro. The pair will discover their opening-round opponents on Thursday night.
“I’m very happy to compete again in an international tournament here in Niterói, my home, where I usually play well and have great memories. Being able to play in front of my family, friends, and students is incredibly rewarding, especially after a tough year recovering from a knee injury that kept me off the courts for nearly eight months,” said Abreu, who is sponsored by Dropshot and supported by the Niterói Department of Sports and Leisure and Spider Undergrip.
Return to Form After Injury
Since his return to the circuit in September, Ralff Abreu has already celebrated victories in Montreal, Canada, and Manhattan Beach, in the United States.
About Ralff Abreu
Born in February 1983 in Niterói, Abreu began his career in tennis before transitioning to beach tennis in 2011. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 18 ITF world titles. In 2017, alongside Diogo Carneiro, he reached the top 10 of the world rankings. That season, he won ITF tournaments in João Pessoa (PB), Maceió (AL), Balneário Camboriú (SC), and São Miguel do Gostoso (RN), and finished as runner-up in Guadalupe and Niterói (RJ). He was also runner-up at the ITF World Team Championship in Russia and a semifinalist at the World Doubles Championship in Cervia, Italy.
In previous years, Abreu claimed the Pan-American title in Aruba (2016) and won the Nations Cup in Italy (2017). He also earned podium finishes in Brusque (SC) and Niterói (RJ) in 2019. Between 2023 and 2024, he secured additional titles in Rosario, Argentina, and another in Rio de Janeiro. This year, Abreu added victories in Manhattan Beach and Montreal to his record.
