Debut in Uruguay
Copacabana Forte Orchestra visits Uruguay for the first time. Eleven young musicians take the stage in Mercedes. The event happens on January 18.
They join the Jazz a la Calle Festival. It ranks among South America’s top jazz events. Moreover, they participate in the Hola Rio! program.
Afro Jazz Carioca Repertoire
The show is titled “Afro Jazz Carioca”. Luiz Potter conducts. The setlist features MPB from Milton Nascimento, Djavan, and Tom Jobim.
It adds bossa nova, samba-jazz, and African chants. Thus, it highlights Afro-Brazilian roots. The concert closes Brazil’s presence at the festival.

History and Social Impact
Recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Rio since 2024. Founded in 2011 by Instituto Rudá. Serves youth from vulnerable areas.

2025 Expansion
Current lineup is big band style. Includes clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and percussion. In 2025, it expanded with Camerata and Chamber Orchestra.

Hola Rio! Program
Initiative by Rio’s Culture Secretariat. Promotes internationalization of Fluminense artists. Covers mobility and festivals on Latin stages.
Prior editions in Spain and Colombia. Third runs in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. Therefore, it strengthens cultural exchange.
