Show directed by Caio Blat and Marina Vianna revisits Dostoevsky classic at Teatro Carlos Gomes from Jan 8-18, with accessibility and stellar cast.

    Contemporary Take on Classic

Os Irmãos Karamazov returns to Rio stages. The production plays at Teatro Carlos Gomes. It offers an accessible view of Fiódor Dostoiévski‘s novel.

Marina Vianna and Caio Blat direct. Luisa Arraes handles artistic production. Maria Duarte manages production direction.

The cast features 13 artists. They alternate in chorus and solos. Names include Nina Tomsic, Pedro Henrique Muller, and Catharina Caiado.

“This show stems from over ten years of study and maturation. That time allowed us not to make a reverent adaptation, but a living, critical, contemporary one.”

    Polyphony and Accessibility

The staging focuses on the three days around the central crime. Thus, it builds intensity and urgency. It echoes current Brazilian themes.

Chorus and live music highlight polyphony. Libras performers join the cast. This ensures inclusion from the start.

“This drives me in this project from day one: creating a truly accessible show. It means viewing accessibility not as an add-on or problem to solve.”

    Awards and Technical Team

Isabela Capeto designs costumes and art. The show won Best Costume at Prêmio Bibi Ferreira. Nominated at Prêmio Shell.

Amália Lima directs movement. Gustavo Hadba and Sarah Salgado handle lights. Moa Batsow does scenography.

    Synopsis and Details

The plot follows brothers’ feuds with their tyrannical father. It explores guilt, faith, and justice. Run lasts Jan 8-18.

     Thu-Fri at 7pm. Sat-Sun at 5pm. 120 minutes long. Age rating 16+.
