Brazilian company acquires world’s highest-rated coffee for R$44,000 per sack, reaffirming its leadership in specialty coffee.

    A record-breaking achievement

Based in Socorro, São Paulo, the CAFEZA Group has once again secured the highest-scoring coffee of the Cup of Excellence Brazil 2025, the world’s most prestigious specialty coffee competition and auction.

The winning batch from the Experimental category, produced at Fazenda Rio Verde (Ipanema Agrícola S/A) in Conceição do Rio Verde, Minas Gerais, was purchased for US$61.40 per pound, equivalent to roughly R$44,000 per sack. The remaining fraction was acquired by Chinese company Decameron.

    Global recognition and impact

Beyond the champion coffee, CAFEZA acquired three other winning lots: 3rd place Experimental, 7th place Washed Process, and 9th place Natural — all from renowned Brazilian farms. This achievement strengthens the brand’s strategy of promoting excellence and expanding Brazil’s global profile in specialty coffee.

“Brazil is in the global elite of high-quality coffees — and we must value that here at home too,” says João Barboza, CAFEZA CEO.

    Commitment to quality and tradition

CAFEZA first gained international attention in 2023 after purchasing the highest-scoring coffee of that year’s competition — also from Fazenda Rio Verde. The 2025 results reinforce its long-term partnerships and dedication to innovation, sustainability, and quality.

    Empowering women and family growers

One of the lots purchased, the 7th place Washed Process, was produced by Dora Conceição Xavier Cerqueira Silva at Fazenda Santa Cecília, highlighting the growing impact of women in Brazilian specialty coffee. Barboza associates this acquisition with personal meaning and respect for the roots of the industry.

“Buying coffee produced by women carries a special meaning — it reminds me of my mother, who worked hard to support our family,” shares Barboza.

The group also supports family farming, emphasizing quality, identity, and sustainability as the foundations of Brazil’s growing influence in the global coffee market.
