Lecadô says its partnership with Food To Save saved 14 tons of edible food in 2025 and avoided over 35 tons of CO₂ emissions.

Lecadô released its 2025 results from initiatives aimed at reducing food waste and managing residues across stores, factory, and office. Over the year, more than 14 tons of food fit for consumption were kept from being discarded. In addition, the chain says it avoided the emission of over 35 tons of CO₂.

According to the company, that impact equals planting 4.8 million trees. It also matches the annual electricity consumption of 15 million homes. As a result, Lecadô highlights environmental gains tied to its sustainability agenda.

    “Surprise Bags” and waste reduction

In stores, the main anti-waste initiative runs through Food To Save “Surprise Bags.” The startup sells items close to their expiration date at discounted prices. Besides in-store pickup, customers can also choose home delivery.

In 2025, more than 14,000 Surprise Bags were sold, Lecadô reports. The chain says the program reinforces sustainable practices across production stages. In this way, edible items reach consumers instead of being thrown away.

“We need to keep pies, sweets, and savory items available until the end of each day. Our mission with this partnership is to foster a culture of conscious consumption. By buying the Surprise Bag, customers know they will receive tasty, high-quality Lecadô products, even without knowing exactly which ones. It’s a choice that supports a bigger cause: fighting waste and caring for the planet,” says Agata Russo, Lecadô’s marketing manager.

    Waste management and recycling

Lecadô’s environmental policy also targets the maximum reduction of solid waste generation. The company says this approach reduces operating costs and environmental impacts. To support it, the chain maintains a Waste Management Plan (PGR).

The plan includes sorting and proper destination for factory waste. Materials include cardboard boxes, egg cartons, plastic filling buckets, and used cooking oil. Next, Lecadô sends the material to recycling through partner companies such as Koleta Ambiental.

“We believe sustainability is a shared responsibility and that every small action matters. Lecadô is present in people’s affectionate and festive moments, and there is no joy in a scenario of hunger or a degraded planet. We want to help transform that reality,” Agata Russo adds.

How to buy and pick up

Surprise Bags can be purchased through the Food To Save app. Pickup is available at Lecadô locations in Rio de Janeiro, Niterói, and São Gonçalo. Finally, the company notes that addresses and phone numbers are available on Lecadô’s website.

    About Lecadô

With 44 years of history, Lecadô is a traditional Rio de Janeiro sweets chain. The brand highlights homemade flavors, fresh ingredients, and its own factory with semi-artisanal production. In addition, the menu includes pies, roulades, pavês, dessert jars, bite-sized sweets, and savory snacks.

Among its items, the company cites its chicken coxinha with cream cheese as a top seller. On commemorative dates, Lecadô launches seasonal lines throughout the year. Currently, the brand operates 31 stores and kiosks in Rio de Janeiro state, and it also serves events and 56 bars at Maracanã and Maracanazinho.
