‘Lord of the Rings’ rerelease draws 200k in Brazil

25th anniversary rerelease of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ drew over 200,000 moviegoers and grossed about \(R\$ 3.8\) million in three days.

From January 22 to 24, Warner Bros. Pictures brought The Lord of the Rings trilogy back to Brazilian theaters. The initiative honored the saga’s 25th anniversary. In addition, it screened one film per day.

Across the three days, the rerelease drew more than 200,000 attendees. However, the schedule kept only one feature on each date. As a result, the box office reached about \(R\$ 3.8\) million.

Extended editions on the big screen

The lineup included The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Next, audiences watched the films in extended editions. This way, moviegoers experienced Middle-earth at full scale in theaters.

The event drew longtime fans and new generations. On the other hand, it also offered a first big-screen viewing for part of the audience. In this manner, the rerelease connected different groups around the franchise.

Cultural impact highlighted

The 25th anniversary celebration underscored the trilogy’s cultural footprint. In addition, it reinforced the franchise’s special place among Brazilian fans. Finally, the turnout signaled strong demand for the saga in theaters.
