Peak season boosts tourism hiring and hotels expand staff by an average of 12% in Rio.
With the summer season, temporary hiring rises across the tourism reception segment. As a result, opportunities increase for people seeking a foothold in the job market.
The hotel industry remains a key employment driver in Rio de Janeiro. According to the Hotel Employability Panorama report from the Observatório do Trabalho Carioca, formal hotels total nearly 20,000 formal jobs in the city.
City accounts for half of roles
This figure represents nearly half of the sector’s 41,900 positions across the state. In addition, the data highlights the city’s central role in hospitality employment.
The segment also stands out for flexibility and seasonality. Meanwhile, nearly 12% of employment ties are temporary contracts, used to meet demand during peak season and major events.
Most requested roles
“The sector is one of the city’s major employers and plays a decisive role in creating jobs and training professionals. Hotels offer thousands of young people their first opportunity in the market, including job opportunities for people with disabilities.”
The statement comes from HotéisRIO president Alfredo Lopes. He says demand for temporary staff increases in summer, especially in kitchen and restaurant operations.
Among the most sought-after roles are busser, steward and waiter. In addition, hotels hire housekeepers and front desk professionals.
Job fairs and resume registration
In this context, the Trabalha Rio Hotéis employability fair brings together candidates throughout the year. HotéisRIO and ABIH-RJ promote the initiative in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Labor and Income.
Next, participants can submit resumes and interview directly with employers. In this way, candidates can pursue both temporary openings and permanent positions.
Finally, people interested in hotel opportunities can register their resumes in the HotéisRIO talent bank, a platform for professionals with or without experience. The system makes profiles available for HR teams at member hotels.
