Hilary Duff drops “Roommates,” the second single from “luck… or something,” out Feb. 20, and kicks off a sold-out intimate tour next week.
Global pop star Hilary Duff has released “Roommates,” the second single from her upcoming album “luck… or something.” The record arrives via Atlantic Records on February 20. In addition, official pre-order and pre-save options are now available through Duff’s channels.
The track was written by Duff alongside her husband, GRAMMY®-winning songwriter and producer Matthew Koma, and Brian Phillips. It was co-produced by Koma and Phillips. In this way, “Roommates” expands Duff’s current pop era.
Music video and the song’s theme
“Roommates” is accompanied by an official music video. The clip is directed by Matty Peacock. According to the release, it is already available on YouTube.
“‘Roommates’ is a song about when life is simply happening. It’s that ache for a wilder, freer time—before days get swallowed by car rides, budget talks, grocery runs, and old or new insecurities showing up. It’s the restless hum of wanting to find your way back—to your rhythm, to your person, to yourself.”
In the statement, Duff frames the track as a reflection on routine and nostalgia. At the same time, she points to the desire to reconnect with her own rhythm. Therefore, the single carries a personal and direct tone.
“Small Rooms, Big Nerves” tour
Next week, Duff begins album promotion with the “Small Rooms, Big Nerves” tour. The run is fully sold out, according to the production. Moreover, it marks her first headlining shows in more than a decade.
Presented by Live Nation, the shows start on January 19 in London at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Next comes Toronto at HISTORY on January 24. The schedule also includes New York at Brooklyn Paramount on January 27 and Los Angeles at The Wiltern on January 29.
In addition, Duff will mark the album’s arrival with two sold-out residencies at Voltaire at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. The announced dates are February 13–15 and May 22–24. In this way, the rollout pairs new music with live performance.
“Mature” opened the era
The album “luck… or something” also includes lead single “Mature,” which is already out. The release notes praise from VOGUE for taking Duff’s sound in new directions. In addition, it says “Mature” surpassed 5 million global streams in its first week.
“Mature” also received a video directed by Lauren Dunn, reported at more than 3.3 million YouTube views. A behind-the-scenes mini-documentary was also released. Thus, the campaign combines music and video content.
Career highlights and pop return
Hilary Duff rose to fame as the star of Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire.” In music, she released “Metamorphosis” (2003), which earned multi-platinum certifications. Next came “Hilary Duff” (2004) and “Dignity” (2007).
The release says those three albums sold 15 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, Duff built a career as a producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and New York Times best-selling author. In addition, she earned recognition for TV and film work, including “Younger.”
Recently signed to Atlantic Records, Duff is beginning a new chapter. The text highlights these are her first new songs since “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” (2015). Therefore, “Roommates” continues her return to pop.
