Lu Tranchesi shares packing tips, rental advice, and the best Aspen ski areas, plus restaurant suggestions for winter trips to the resort town.

Early in the year brings peak winter in the Northern Hemisphere and, with it, ski season. Influencer Lu Tranchesi put together a guide for travelers planning a trip to Aspen. In addition, she has the destination scheduled for early 2026.

Her recommendations cover cold-weather clothing, snow essentials, and advice for the slopes. In this way, the guide helps visitors pack and plan the on-site experience. Next, she also lists well-known restaurants around town.

    Clothing and must-have items

According to Lu Tranchesi, Aspen often stays below freezing at the start of the year. For that reason, packing should focus on layering to keep warm. The base for skiing or walking around includes thermal underwear and a fleece layer.

She recommends technical fabrics and advises avoiding cotton, which can increase the feeling of cold. In addition, jackets and pants should be waterproof to protect against wind and moisture. This way, travelers stay more comfortable throughout the day.

Thermal beanies are a must throughout the trip, she says. Next, waterproof gloves that work with touchscreen phones help with photos without discomfort. For footwear, après-ski snow boots remain her top pick for walking on snow.

    Gear and rentals

For the slopes, masks and goggles are essential items, even on beginner runs. Rental options are widely available in town and at the resorts. However, she suggests Four Mountain Sports or Aspen Sports.

She says the staff helps visitors choose gear based on skill level. In addition, the teams share practical tips for skiing. As a result, travelers reduce the risk of picking the wrong equipment.

    Best ski areas in Aspen

Aspen Mountain is known for long routes and cinematic views. It best suits intermediate to advanced skiers. In addition, the resort sits in town, making it easier to combine skiing with shopping and sightseeing.

Snowmass is highlighted as the main standout, and Lu Tranchesi says it is where she usually stays. As Aspen’s largest area, it offers trails for all levels. In this way, it tends to feel more family-oriented and quieter, with less nightlife.

Aspen Highlands is recommended for those seeking more advanced terrain and the view from Highlands Bowl. Next, the area includes Cloud 9, described as one of Aspen’s most sought-after restaurants. On the other hand, the vibe targets adults looking for adrenaline.

For beginners, Buttermilk provides runs designed for learning with safety and comfort. There are fewer trails, but the experience stays calmer. In addition, it is the area associated with the X Games, with nearby structures during the competition period.

    Where to eat in Aspen

At Aspen Highlands, Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro features alpine food, fondues, and drinks in a festive setting. She advises booking ahead due to high demand. This way, groups can plan the experience more smoothly.

For a classic après-ski stop, she recommends Ajax Tavern, located at the base of Aspen Mountain. The venue is known for truffle fries and a double cheeseburger. In addition, its location makes it easy to sit in the sun and take in the scenery.

For a more upscale option, Element 47 at The Little Nell hotel stands out for couples. The restaurant focuses on contemporary dishes and a wide wine list. In this way, it fits travelers looking for a more elegant dinner.

Among Japanese restaurants, Matsuhisa is described as the most in demand, with an upbeat atmosphere and delicate dishes. For that reason, she recommends reservations to avoid long lines. Next, Kenichi appears as a less formal choice with a younger vibe.

For a more casual lunch, White House Tavern is suggested for its cozy feel. The crispy chicken sandwich is listed as a lighter meal option. In addition, it works well for travelers visiting with friends.

Crêperie du Village is described as romantic, with a menu of fondues, raclette, and sweet or savory crepes. A varied wine selection supports the intimate dinner proposal. Finally, Mezzaluna is positioned as an all-day stop serving pasta, salads, and sandwiches.
