Theatrical tour at Rio’s Theatro Municipal revives the dance temple’s history with actors, music and time travel starting January 14.
“Theatro Municipal conta histórias” premieres on January 14. Actors in period costumes lead groups through the iconic venue. In addition, they blend theater and music for historical immersion.
The experience lasts one and a half hours. It transports visitors to Rio’s Belle Époque. Thus, it links the theater to city evolution.
Theatro Municipal history
Theatro Municipal opened July 14, 1909. The date echoes the Storming of the Bastille. Back then, Rio was the federal capital under French influence.
Daniela Chindler‘s script, based on Luciene Carris research, ties the building to Avenida Central. Now Rio Branco, it featured Brazilwood and rosewood trees. As such, it evoked “Paris in the tropics”.
Actors Adassa Martins, Gabriel Sant´Anna, Lucas Salustriano and Sophia Fried roam audience areas, balconies and Assyrius Hall. They portray figures like Chiquinha Gonzaga and Fernanda Montenegro.
Creative team and background
Augusto Pessoa directs. Guilherme Miranda handles music direction and Joaquim de Paula musical research. The script highlights fun, curious and poetic theater tales.
Daniela Chindler crafts theatrical tours since 1997. Her works marked ABL and CCBB centennials. Moreover, she advances cultural education in prisons and schools.
