Summer season boosts confidence among bar and restaurant owners

Rising temperatures, holidays, and tourism drive growth expectations across Brazil’s food service sector.

Positive outlook for the summer

With summer officially starting at the end of December, Brazilian bar and restaurant owners anticipate a busy and profitable season. Forecasts of above-average temperatures and an increase in domestic travel are expected to boost consumption and revenue in the coming months.

According to the Monthly Services Survey, tourism-related activities grew 0.8% in October, accumulating a 2.1% increase over three months. Data from ANAC also shows that more than 9 million passengers traveled on domestic flights in October—the highest figure since records began in 2000—indicating a solid tourism rebound.

Entrepreneurs embrace optimism

A survey by Abrasel found that 81% of foodservice entrepreneurs expect higher year-end revenues in 2025 compared to 2024. This optimism is driven by factors such as holiday bonuses, the vacation season, and an increase in festive gatherings.

For Débora Souza de Almeida, owner of Mariposa de Vilas Restaurant in Lauro de Freitas (BA), summer is traditionally the most profitable period. “We’re very optimistic. It’s when we welcome more tourists, and sales rise significantly,” she said, projecting a 15% increase in revenue compared to last year.

She added that the year-end bonus boosts spending. “We plan special packages and events to attract guests. People are ready to go out, gather, and celebrate,” Débora noted.

Tourism and training as key drivers

According to José Eduardo Camargo, Content Leader at Abrasel, summer is a decisive time for the industry. “As domestic and international tourism rise, restaurants and bars see greater customer flow, helping rebuild revenue and open new opportunities,” he explained.

He emphasized that growth must be paired with planning and staff training. “Higher demand only leads to customer loyalty when businesses maintain quality service and well-prepared teams,” he concluded.
