As 2026 approaches, interest in studying abroad continues to rise. According to Belta, the sector saw a 15% growth in 2024 compared to 2023, moving around R$ 540 million. Projections indicate a further 17% increase in 2025.
Brazilian students are increasingly seeking authentic, safe experiences with better affordability, driving the rise of smaller cities with strong academic and cultural appeal.
New preferences among Brazilian students
The trend aligns with the growth of emerging markets such as New Zealand, which welcomed around 1,000 Brazilian students in 2024 and saw a 34% increase in early 2025.
“Today’s exchange student wants a truly transformative experience. They seek lower costs, nature, strong institutions, and destinations that go beyond the obvious,” says Alexandre Argenta, president of Belta.
