Two decades after their first partnership, H&M and Stella McCartney announce a 2026 collection built on responsible materials and deeper sustainability dialogue.
Collab marks 20-year reunion
H&M has announced a new collaboration with British designer Stella McCartney, a long-standing pioneer in sustainable fashion. The news comes almost exactly 20 years after the duo’s first partnership in November 2005, which was H&M’s second-ever designer collaboration at the time.
Set to launch in the first half of 2026, the collection will feature certified, responsibly sourced materials, many of them recycled, as alternatives to conventional textiles. It also celebrates McCartney’s design DNA, revisiting signature styles, iconic silhouettes and codes inspired by key moments in the history of her brand.
Fashion Awards debut and star-studded preview
The collaboration was revealed on Monday (01.12) at the Fashion Awards in London. Celebrities such as Anitta, Amelia Gray, Emily Ratajkowski, Yasmin Wijnaldum, Bel Priestley, Alton Mason and Kiara Nirghin attended the event wearing looks from the upcoming collection, offering a first glimpse of what is to come.
This new partnership goes beyond the traditional designer capsule model that made H&M famous. The project broadens the conversation to include a stronger focus on advocating for sustainability, through talks, debates and concrete actions.
New Insights Board to explore innovation and animal welfare
One of the core pillars of the collaboration is the creation of a new Insights Board. This initiative brings together diverse voices and perspectives from the fashion industry to build a space for curiosity and active listening.
The board’s mission is to explore fresh ways for brands—and the industry as a whole—to influence and co-create change, while raising awareness around animal welfare and innovation-driven solutions. From the collection itself to the Insights Board, the aim is to foster meaningful dialogue, outstanding design and lasting impact.
Keeping sustainability at the center of fashion
At the heart of McCartney’s and H&M’s shared vision is the belief that sustainability must remain a key topic in fashion, approached with transparency, dialogue and, above all, hope. The collab seeks to highlight progress while acknowledging how much work is still needed.
“I am excited to reunite with H&M 20 years after our first collaboration. Revisiting pieces from my archive brought back so much energy and joy. This second partnership feels like a chance to look at how far we’ve come in sustainability, cruelty-free practices and conscious design—and to be honest about how much further we still need to go, together. I am grateful to have H&M with me on this journey; real change only happens when we apply pressure from both the outside and the inside, and I have always believed in working from within to move the industry forward,” says Stella McCartney.
According to Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Head of Design, the project reinforces a long-standing admiration. “Stella is a true pioneer. From the beginning, she has revolutionized fashion with designs that bring a subversive take on femininity. This collection is filled with must-have pieces that reference that legacy. Her ethics and tireless commitment to sustainable practices have long inspired us at H&M, so it is an honour to collaborate with her on such an ambitious project,” she comments.
Collection launch in stores and online in 2026
