Black Friday in Rio should move R$ 1.39 billion, with average spending of R$ 1,385 and strong mall promotions.
Survey shows higher spending
A survey by IFec RJ found that average Black Friday spending in Rio should reach R$ 1,385 this year. The amount is slightly above 2024, when the ticket was R$ 1,345. Therefore, the estimated financial volume climbs to R$ 1.39 billion, compared with R$ 1.37 billion last year.
The research interviewed 1,042 consumers from Greater Rio between 11 and 14 November. Among them, 27.6% intend to buy during Black Friday, a small increase from 27% in 2024. The result suggests cautious, yet gradually stronger, consumer confidence.
Home appliances lead demand, with 41.8% of mentions among those who plan to shop. Next come electronics (25.4%), clothing, shoes and accessories (16.4%), household items (4.6%) and perfumery (3.5%). In this way, different retail segments benefit from the promotional date.
Limited influence from Christmas
The survey also examined whether Christmas influences Black Friday purchases. A majority, 68.2%, said it does not affect their decisions. On the other hand, 22.8% declared they buy with Christmas in mind, while 9.1% are partially influenced.
The figures show that Black Friday stands as an independent event in the Brazilian retail calendar. Even so, many consumers still use the discounts to anticipate Christmas gifts. As a result, retailers adjust campaigns and inventories to serve both occasions.
