Youcom introduces a more sustainable zipper in its denim pieces, developed with YKK, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and reduced environmental impact.
Youcom, a youth fashion brand inspired by urban lifestyle, has started using a more sustainable zipper in its denim products, developed in partnership with YKK, the world’s largest zipper manufacturer. The initiative overcomes the cost barrier that previously limited large-scale implementation in the fashion retail sector.
Innovation and environmental responsibility
The Silver Fosco NATULON® zipper is free of restricted substances and uses recycled tape made from PET bottles. This solution encourages plastic waste reuse, reduces the demand for virgin raw materials and contributes to lower environmental disposal, while eliminating one of the most harmful metals in the fashion supply chain.
After three years of research and development, the sustainable zipper is now present in jeans, skirts and denim shorts. The initiative aligns with Youcom’s sustainability strategy, also reflected in projects such as Jeans for Change, launched in 2014 to re-purpose used denim items.
Strategic partnership with Lojas Renner S.A.
The Silver Fosco NATULON® zipper was developed at the request of Lojas Renner S.A., in line with its commitment to eliminate all restricted substances from its products by 2030. As part of the group’s ecosystem, Youcom serves as a testing platform for innovative sustainability solutions.
“Sustainability is one of the company’s strategic pillars, and initiatives like this reflect our commitment to transforming the fashion supply chain through responsible innovation. The adoption of this type of zipper by Youcom represents an important step in replacing materials with lower environmental impact alternatives,” highlights Eduardo Ferlauto, Sustainability Director at Lojas Renner S.A.
Brand presence and expansion
Youcom operates more than 140 physical stores across several Brazilian states and maintains a strong e-commerce presence nationwide. The brand also offers an omnichannel experience, allowing customers to shop online and pick up in-store, reinforcing its mission to connect young consumers with fashion and lifestyle.
