Natal em Pomerode celebrates German heritage in SC

Natal em Pomerode features Christmas Market, cultural shows and German traditions with extensive programming until January 4.

Natal em Pomerode begins this Wednesday (26) and runs until January 4, highlighting one of Santa Catarina’s most traditional Christmas celebrations. The event presents a European-style Christmas Market, cultural performances and the preservation of customs inherited from German immigrants.

Cultural programming and community celebration

Activities take place across central streets, the Cultural Center, Municipal Theater and cultural routes throughout the city. Competitions such as the Stollen Contest and Christmas Decoration Contest actively engage the local community.

Most attractions are free of charge. Only specific workshops at the Christmas Market require payment, while certain performances may require advance reservations or ticket purchases.

Opening ceremony and “Tempo” show

The opening ceremony starts at 7:30 pm at the City Hall balcony, featuring Santa Claus and an ecumenical moment. The evening continues with the musical spectacle “Tempo”, by Kauê Lopes Produções, featuring projections, lighting effects, nine actors and a 22-member choir.

After the ceremony, a festive procession moves through the city center to the Cultural Center, where the Christmas Market and Noel Haus Kyly are officially inaugurated.

Christmas Market and traditional cuisine

The Christmas Market showcases local handicrafts, decorations, candles, traditional food and beverages in a setting inspired by European markets. The Stollen cake stands out as a key highlight, following workshops led by German pastry chef Katja Walter.

Another gastronomic attraction is Sommer Wein, an adaptation of the traditional Glühwein for Brazil’s summer climate. Visitors can also enjoy unique installations such as Kristal Tannenbaum, the Christmas Atelier and Sternennacht.

Traditions and special attractions

The event includes musical performances, lantern parades, ballet shows, orchestral concerts and religious celebrations such as the First Sunday of Advent service. The Stollen Contest also reinforces Pomerode’s cultural and gastronomic heritage.

Natal em Pomerode is organized by Associação Visite Pomerode (Avip) with support from local institutions and sponsors, strengthening cultural tourism and the German identity of the region.
