Microlots reinforce specialty coffee excellence by showcasing origin, quality and sensory profile in Café Santa Monica’s limited editions.

The global coffee market continues to expand, driven by Brazil’s leadership, which achieved a record export volume in 2024. Within this context, differentiated coffees with certifications and superior quality strengthen the country’s position as one of the world’s leading premium exporters, according to Cecafé.

Microlots and the value of origin

This appreciation for origin drives the growth of microlots, small-scale, high-scoring coffees that represent an evolution within the specialty coffee segment. Among the leading brands is Café Santa Monica, recognized as a pioneer in Brazil and a benchmark for technical excellence combined with artisanal care.

According to founder Arthur Moscofian Jr., microlots embody the brand’s essence. “These are small-scale coffees scoring above 85 points, revealing the uniqueness of each harvest. Each microlot expresses its own sensory profile, shaped by variety, altitude and post-harvest processing,” he says.

New 85+ line and sensory diversity

The new 85+ line from Café Santa Monica features three Arabica varieties grown in the Cerrado Mineiro region: Topázio, with notes of red fruits, grape and pineapple and a silky body; Bourbon Amarelo, with strawberry, raspberry and cherry and a velvety body; and Catuaí Amarelo, with molasses and milk caramel aromas, citrus acidity and a clean finish.

Microlots act as a showcase for the complexity of Brazilian coffee, bringing together selected beans that stood out in the previous harvest. Arthur highlights that this meticulous process reflects sensitivity, precision and a commitment to sustainability and purity.

    Tradition, innovation and market growth

CEO Marcelo Moscofian explains that the brand’s strategy balances tradition and innovation. “While our 82-point coffee remains the flagship, demand for whole bean coffee continues to grow, reflecting a more demanding and informed consumer,” he states.

From its farm in Machado, Minas Gerais, to its roasting facility in Mooca, São Paulo, the production process ensures traceability and flavor consistency. Careful post-harvest handling and precise roasting sustain Café Santa Monica’s reputation among connoisseurs and specialists.

    Recognition and sector impact

According to BSCA, Brazil may generate over US$ 70 million in specialty coffee business in recent initiatives in Japan, reinforcing the international growth of high-scoring beans. Limited-edition microlots enhance the sensory experience and celebrate the richness of Brazilian terroir.
